Shooting with experienced models, or anyone that’s very comfortable in front of the camera, is a blast. That being said, building a connection with that person is a big factor in getting good images. Some times it takes seconds, some time it takes minutes. The longer it takes, the more throw away shots there are. You can actually see, frame by frame, a person becoming more comfortable if you get to see the entire set of images.

Kim contacted me a long time ago to shoot family portraits, but due to scheduling conflicts, we were never able to settle on a date. Recently I told her about my 12 Frames project and how quick it usually is, and we found some time!

For our first session, she was awesome! I look forward to working with her again.

I love the way film looks which is why it’s hard for me to do too much editing. I played with curves, levels, and the healing brush and a little sharpening.

Happy New Year! I didn’t want to pick up my camera and just take a photo. I also knew that I wasn’t going to set up lights and bring out my entire kit for a photo shoot. It’s too much fun and I love it too much.

It only took me a minute to realize what my first photo of 2012 was going to be of, my fiancé. I’ve pointed my camera at her thousands of times, but it’s never too much for me.

I don’t feel I’ve ever taken a bad photo of her, but she would disagree. Today while visiting the house we just bought, I had her pause before we went in. Facing the sun, mid-day, not the best conditions I know, but it didn’t matter. Sometimes all that does matter is the subject, no matter how you capture it.
